TREATMENT & FINISHING

THE TRIED AND TESTED

one default finish to rule them all

We use Rubio Monocoat (Oil Plus 2C) which is a professional grade oil/wax to treat all our goods. This treatment preserves the oaks natural light tones while providing stain, wear and moisture protection and is ideal for hard-wearing surfaces like table tops.

There are various colours available from Rubio, but we offer one tried and tested standard finish which results is a “natural matte” look with minimal shine that leaves our oak surfaces with a subtle enhanced contrast that brings out the oaks unique characteristics and grain. The final treated surface is as close to a raw sanded look as possible while protecting it from stains, moisture and general wear and tear. Click here to view a video example.

All our products come treated and ready to use upon delivery with no further action needed on your part.

Alternative colour options

Over 95% of our goods use our default matt natural finish, however there are plenty of other stains that we can offer from Rubio to meet your bespoke needs. Please take a look at this link (from Rubio Monocoat) and let me know the 2x best options you like, and from there we will prepare samples for you to view and sign-off.

This is the best method for bespoke staining which avoids disappointment and ensures that everyone’s expectations are in line, as colours/finishes vary greatly on screen versus in real life. Please note staining incurs an additional charge of +- 10% of the value of the item being treated.

Commercial Applications

We also offer commercial finishes which typically involve adding an additional layer of Hardwax – a product specifically designed for surfaces treated with oiled goods – which further protects the surface, and the finish. It’s important to note that all our finishes are not varnishes (a traditionally viscous layer that sits on top of the wood, but doesn’t penetrate it), and do require a small degree of maintenance, but these will be communicated to you upon completion and are very straight forward.
