General Lead Time:
Our manufacture lead time is provided as a general estimate (detailed at the top of each product page) and depends on the particular item and quantities ordered. This period may change depending on unavoidable delays created by load-shedding, material availability or other circumstances which are out of our hands; in this event you will be notified beforehand.
All our pieces are made by hand, with care and attention to detail and therefore these estimates may take longer than originally anticipated. We offer a balance of quality and value which is hard to find, but we do ask for patience when more time is needed, as delays can be part of the process.
Please highlight any deadlines or deliver constraints you may have to us prior to ordering as we generally aren’t able to fast track production ahead of older orders.
Delivery:
We accept orders throughout South Africa, and offer professional charged-for delivery service from of our workshop in Cape Town.
For deliveries within Cape Town, we have a dedicated team who deliver directly from our workshop to your doorstep. Rates for these can be viewed upon our checkout page, alternatively they will be provided within a quotation.
For locations outside of the Cape Town (Western Cape) we use trusted furniture moving companies (typically Campos) who consolidate multiple loads to make it more cost effective) to deliver your goods. We will obtain quotations on your behalf, and these will be reviewed by us, with the best one being presented to you for acceptance. We don’t place any mark-up on these, and as such, you would accept and pay for the delivery aspect yourself with the company directly.
If you are concerned that access for your goods may be an issue, please communicate this with us prior to confirming your order as we strictly do not accept any responsibility for the non-fitment of goods ordered. Please note we do not offer specialised delivery services such as hoisting.
Collection:
You are welcome to arrange for the collection of your order from our workshop at 76 Denton Street (see entrance gate), Parow Industrial, Cape Town, 7943, after having received confirmation that your order is complete. Our operating hours are Monday – Friday from 9:00 – 15:30pm
Manufacture & Joinery:
All our goods are constructed using various combinations of mortis and tenon, biscuit, dowel and pocket screw jointing with commercial grade wood adhesives to ensure a sound, solid build that will last.
Our tables in particular use wooden biscuits along the length of each oak plank to create a solid table top. The top is then secured to the table body using z-clip fasteners which are designed to allow the top to expand and contract throughout the seasons, resulting in no splitting or cracking.
Due to the nature of the natural material being worked with, we allow for a measurement deviation of up to 5mm for any length/width/height, and up to 2mm for any thickness.
Treatments & Finishes:
We use Rubio Monocoat which is a professional grade product to treat all our goods. This treatment preserves the oaks natural light tones while providing stain, wear and moisture protection and is ideal for hard-wearing surfaces.
Our tried and tested standard finish (see example here) is a matt natural look with minimal shine, leaving top surfaces with a subtle enhanced contrast that brings out the oaks unique characteristics and grain. The final treated surface is as close to raw sanded wood as possible while protecting it from stains, moisture and general wear and tear.
All our products come treated and ready to use upon delivery with no further action needed on your part. See our Treatment & Finishing page here.
Payment:
We accept EFT (electronic funds transfer), Visa/Mastercard, or SnapScan payments only (no physical cash accepted).
Orders originating inside the Western Cape are confirmed and will only be processed upon having received a 50% deposit payment into our bank account as indicated on your invoice/quotation. A further 50% balance payment is due and payable upon delivery. No goods will be released for delivery until such time that payment has been made for all orders, in full.
All goods remain the property of Good Oak (Pty) Ltd until payment is received in full.
Maintenance:
Care and maintenance instructions will be printed out and emailed to you upon order completion.
In general, avoid leaving any oils, chemicals or liquids on your top surfaces to avoid permanent marking. Your surfaces are protected against spills, but always clean them away immediately using a non-abrasive cloth, or if needed, a drop of dishwashing liquid and a little cold water. Leaving oils, chemicals or liquids overnight will cause stains, as these penetrate through the wood grain; the biggest culprits are pot plants and glasses left overnight. Do not use any aerosol or chemical based applications (like Mr Min) as this damages the surface treatment.
Environment & Usage:
Unless otherwise detailed, all our goods are strictly manufactured and treated for indoor/interior use only. If you are considering purchasing an item for an exterior space like a covered patio, balcony or a similar area, please check with us first so we can advise accordingly.
Always keep your goods inside (balconies/patios are outside), and out of direct sunlight/rain/wind to avoid weathering and damage; your goods are strictly built for interior/indoor use only, as they require a stable environment to avoid deformation. As a general rule, direct sunlight and excessive heat = yellowing and possible splitting along the wood ends. Be sure to nourish your table tops with care-oil to keep the wood from drying out too much. Additionally, we also recommend rotating your goods every 12 months to balance out any sun exposure they may be getting (ie one end may be getting sun all year while the other doesn’t).
Our Oak:
Our oak is sourced from sustainable importers and predominantly consists of the American White (referred to as white oak) varietal. We select a grade of oak which features minimal knots and subtle grain variation, all of which lend to producing top surfaces which are attractive and structurally sound.
We manufacture all our goods from two standard finished thicknesses, namely 22mm or 34mm solid oak . The specific thickness used will be detailed within the product page, along with other options like staining, edge profiles or opting for a thicker top.
We do not guarantee any specific widths of panel used in your top surfaces, rather we select the best oak panels available to us in order to create uniform surface that best showcases the character of the wood. We do guarantee that there will be no standout dark panels (“zebra stripes”) and that any knots will be spread out strategically to serve as an attractive feature.
