our default finish

We use Rubio Monocoat (Oil Plus 2C) which is a professional grade oil/wax to treat all our goods. This treatment preserves the oaks natural light tones while providing stain, wear and moisture protection and is ideal for hard-wearing surfaces like table tops.

There are many wonderful stains available from Rubio, but we offer one tried and tested standard finish which results is a “natural” look with minimal shine that we feel best represents the true characteristics and grain of the wood, without it looking “yellow”. The final treated surface is as close to a raw sanded look as possible while protecting it from stains, moisture and general wear and tear.

All our products come treated, assembled and ready to use upon delivery with no further action needed on your part.

Alternative colour options

Over 95% of our goods use our default matt natural finish, however there are plenty of other stains that we can offer from Rubio to meet your bespoke needs. Please take a look at this link (from Rubio Monocoat) and let us know the best options you like, and from there we’ll prepare samples for you to view and sign-off.

This is the best method to ensure everyone’s expectations are in line, as the final finish can vary when compared to a backlit screen reference or small veneer sample versus a real life sized piece of furniture. We’re also able to generate stained renders of the items you like upon request. Take a look at some of the best stains we’ve applied here.

Commercial Applications

We also offer commercial finishes where our goods will be subject to regular high traffic usage. This typically involves adding an additional layer of hardwax/sealant from Osmo over the Rubio Monocoat base layer which further protects the overall finish to endure tough wear and tear.

For particularly tricky areas where excess moisture is a factor, we use a specialized water-based varnish on top of the treated surface. Both options ensure the lightness of the oak is retained while providing a water tight and highly durable finish for commercial environments.
